​The Residential Composters Program

Looking to compost on campus? Want to manage your food-related waste better this semester? Interested in reducing your impact on climate change? Become a certified Residential Composter!

Cornell’s modified Residential Compost program launched in February 2021 and allows certified individuals to compost personal food waste on campus by enrolling. Joining the program takes less than 20 minutes. Click the button to learn more and enroll.

Central Campus Compost Drop Spots

Mann Café, housed in Mann Library, along with Martha van Rensselaer Hall both offer compost drop spots when you're on the go! There are also drop spots open Fridays from 12-6 located at Anabel's Grocery (Anabel Taylor Hall) and also at Fork and Gavel (Cornell Law School). Living Off-Campus?
Tompkins County Recycling and Materials Management

Compost caddies and bags are available free of charge from the Department of Recycling and Materials Management office or at any Drop Spot. Transportation containers are available for sale at the Recycling and Materials Management office for $12. Residents are welcome to use alternative transportation containers. Users can bring up to 10 gallons of food scraps and paper napkins & towels per day, free of charge, to one of the Tompkins County Food Scraps Recycling Drop Spots. All material collected is processed by Cayuga Compost and available for sale at a number of local retailers, like Greenstar. Living Off-Campus?
Join Compost Carpool GroupMe!

The Cornell Compost Groupme chat is a way for students to help each other compost. Sign up to be a volunteer driver, and let other folks know when you're planning to drop off compost at a drop spot, or sign up to be a "passenger," and arrange to drop off your compost with one of our volunteers. Contact us for access to the GroupMe link (no bots allowed!!!)
